Holistic Self-Care & Hildegard of Bingen: A Retreat For Spiritual Directors

November 7, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - November 10, 2024 @ 12:00 pm
Join the Anam Cara community for a time of ease, refreshment, and renewal for you and your practice of spiritual direction. This retreat—designed to be a restful, safe place for those whose ministry of listening has brought a heavy load over the last few years—is meant to ease the burdens and renew your soul. Led by the Anam Cara team and our speaker, Sister Mary Colleen Schwarz, OSB, this four-day experience will involve liturgy and movement, rest, and rhythm. At a stunning property in the mountains of Colorado, you will be offered all the rest and renewal the mountains and our ministry can offer.
Retreat Duration: Thursday, November 6 at 7 pm MT (with afternoon arrival on the property and dinner out at a location nearby) to Sunday, November 10 at 12 pm.

Our retreat will run from Thursday evening to Sunday at noon, November 7-10, 2024 (yes, right after the election), and will be hosted once more at The Hideaway. We have triple , double, and single rooms available as well as commuter options, including all meals Friday through Sunday breakfast, snacks, drinks, and other surprises along the way. We will again be offering 1-hour long subsidized massages ($50/hour) that you can add as an add-on to your registration. This year, we’re requiring a $100 non-refundable deposit and will invoice you either all at once or in installments for the remaining cost, whatever your preference may be.

Retreat Theme:

Holistic Self-Care & the Heart Wisdom of Hildegard of Bingen

St. Hildegard of Bingen’s life and writings attract many people because they speak to contemporary interests such as holistic-contemplative living, care of the environment, and creation-centered spirituality. Hildegard’s message promotes everything that is life-giving.

What is life-giving for you? Do you need a sacred space to once again touch the belovedness of who you are becoming in God? As spiritual directors it is essential to pause, refresh, renew, and rejoice in the gifts we have been given in life and especially in our spiritual direction ministry.

About Sister Mary Colleen:

Sister Mary Colleen Schwarz, OSB

My journey to Benet Hill Monastery was a path of many twists and turns. As I became more spiritual, awakening the call to religious life became a prayerful discernment. The passion to serve Christ as a Benedictine sister was my hope.

My past professional life included being a Critical Care Nurse Manager and Educator. It was in 2001 that I wrote to the Prioress here to humbly ask for direction towards a permanent commitment. I First Professed in 2005 and made my Final Profession in 2008. Among numerous other ministries, I’ve been a spiritual director since 2005.

I developed, and am the coordinator, facilitator, and supervisor, of the current Global On-Line Benedictine Spiritual Direction Program. Currently, I am an elected member of the Monastic Leadership Team. In my free time, you may catch me reading, exercising, gardening while cloud gazing, or photographing the beautiful grounds around the Monastery.
